tera.) Host: Coconut palm. Injury: Damage occasioned by the pest is usually local, but affected trees appearbrown and unhealthy when viewed from a distance. Description and biology: Adult beetle length 8 mm., breadth 2 mm.; general colorgolden; head quadrangular in shape and provided with powerful mandibles; thoraxgolden, basal third of elytra golden and remainder metallic blue. Eggs are depositedsingly on under surface of leaflets; larvee on hatching make their way into the leaf andtunnel between the upper and lower surfaces, feeding on the fleshy cells; pupateusually at extreme end of tunnel passage; pupal stage lasts from 18 to 20 days.
