| Description | I am in the wash room on the long and circuitous path leading out from the Kiyomizu-dera temple just outside Kyoto, Japan. The path seemed to simply go on and on with no end in sight and so a visit to the facilities was in order. And while an umbrella hook next to the urinal was an ingenious idea (see previous picture), this one, in the same washroom, is nothing short of dumb- a wash basin in the shape of an urinal- I thought that was really daft. The clear sign and the slightly different location within the washroom notwithstanding, I was left scratching my head as to how many people have mistakenly tried to pee in there, mistaking this for an urinal as well. For after all when you have to go, that too urgently, you simply have to go, isn't it? (Kyoto, Japan, Apr/ May 2019) |
