English: Built in the 1950s by Dr. Rudolph N. Gordon to serve as his dental office, this building was the first medical office building built in St. Augustine that did not feature segregated waiting rooms. Dr. Gordon died in 1959, whereupon the building became home to the office of Dr. Robert B. Hayling, a dentist and a prominent member of the Civil Rights Movement in St. Augustine. The widow of Dr. Gordon, Mrs. Rosalie Gordon-Mills, was the first woman of color to seek public office in St. Augustine’s history, in 1965, when she ran for a city commissioner seat. |
