English: Achany House This is Achany House, it sits in the Achany Glen close to the River Shin and is surrounded by the Achany Farm
A long time ago it was the home of the late Sir James Matheson who was a Member of Parliament for Ross and Cromarty. He made a large fortune in Asia with the trading company Jardine Matheson. Donald Matheson then inherited the Achany Estate in Sutherland, from his aunt, the widow of Sir James Matheson, in 1896. after that I am not too sure about its history, I think it ended up as an Agriculture College for a time. |
