العربية: تظهر هذه الصورة الفوتوغرافية التي تعود إلى عام 1894مدينة عدن (في اليمن حاليا) كما بدت من البحر. احتلت بريطانيا مدينة عدن الساحلية في عام 1893وأصبحت مستودعا مهما لتموين البحرية البريطانية. تقع عدن في بقعة مواتية استراتيجيا عند مدخل البحر الأحمر، وقد أصبحت إحدى مستعمرات التاج البريطاني في عام 1937وظلت تحت السيطرة البريطانية لثلاثة عقود أخرى. وقد التقط الصورة وليام هنري جاكسون (1843-1942) لحساب لجنة النقل العالمية، وهي بعثة نظمها وكيل الدعاية والإعلان في السكك الحديدية الأمريكية جوزيف غلادنغ بانغبورن لجمع المعلومات عن نظم النقل الدولي، وخصوصا السكك الحديدية، للمتحف الميداني الكولومبي في شيكاغو. وقد اكتسب متحف الميدانية الكولومبي العديد من المعارض من المعرض الكولومبي العالمي عام 1893، بما في ذلك معارض شاملة حول النقل والسكك الحديدية. وإلى جانب بانغبورن، تضمنت اللجنة مهندس سكك حديدية وفنان رسوم بيانية وجاكسون، الذي يتمتع بخبرات تصوير واسعة لشركات السكك الحديدية الأمريكية وبعثات المسح الجيولوجي. بدأت البعثة عملها في شمال أفريقيا في أواخر 1894، وانهته في سيبيريا في أوائل عام 1896.
