Description |
English: Aerial view of the Marinship Corporation shipyard, Sausalito, California (USA), looking east, 6 December 1944. Marinship Corporation was an emergency yard, built by Bechtel-McCone with 6 ways in the fifth wave of shipbuilding expansion funded by $17 million from the U.S. Marine Corps. It was one of the four yards that built T-2 tankers. Marinship was remarkable for laying its first keel within three months of receiving authorization to build the shipyard. At its peak, Marinship employed 20,000 people. After the Second World War, the yard was taken over by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and redeveloped. |
