Short final for 16 YYC. On 24 Aug 2001, this A330 ran out of fuel over the Atlantic Ocean. It glided, unpowered, with the assistance of the Ram Air Turbine for 19 minutes before making an emergency landing in the Azores. 0 casulities. 8 out of the ten tires blew after touchdown, due to the aircraft coming in at 200 kts. Captain Robert Piché and FO Dirk DeJager were awarded the Superior Airmanship Award from the US Airline Pilots Association for this amazing feat.
