Summary edit

Description
English: Aircraft wreckage of Blackburn Botha L6202 on Llwytmor. These few pieces are all that remain of the wreckage of Blackburn Botha L6202 of 11RS Hooton Park, Wirral, which crashed into Llwytmor mountain in cloud on 28th August, 1943, with the loss of all 4 crewmen. The Blackburn Botha, a general reconnaissance and torpedo bomber, was desperately underpowered - it needed 24 min to climb 15,000 ft - so following a series of losses in 1940 it was withdrawn from active service and relegated to the role of a trainer for navigators, radio operators and gunners. Still, the accidents kept happening - 3 Bothas were lost in Snowdonia alone. As a result it was finally withdrawn from service at the beginning of 1944.
The L6206 crashed on a training exercise for radio operators on the 28th of August. Llandwrog Mountain Rescue Unit was alerted. But it was not until 18.00hrs on 31st that the crash site was reached, the MRU having investigated a number of possible crash sites in the Carneddau. The bodies were not recovered until 1st Sept. It proved the longest continuous operation handled by Llandwrog MRU.
