Summary edit

Description
English: Aircrew memorials During the second World War, Lower Lough Erne was a flying boat base. The Irish Republic granted overflying rights for these aircraft down the River Erne to the sea at Ballyshannon. These memorials stand at the viewpoint on the Cliffs of Magho overlooking the lough.

The central panel is a poem "In memory of 'The Aircrews'" by Helene Turner. It starts
"Canadians from a far off land
Extended to us a helping hand
Catlina's set forth in the dead of night
Valiant men off to the fight
For freedom and the defence of you and I
True hero's of land, sea and sky..."

(Not, I fear, one of the greatest poems ever written)

To left and right are plaques commemorating respectively Sunderland W4036 of 201 Squadron RAF sank in Lough Erne on November 18th 1943 with the loss of three lives, and Catalina JX242 of 202 Squadron Killadeas which crashed at Lough an Laban on November 20th 1944 with the loss of eight lives.
