Summary edit

Description
English: Fire Boat "Albert Krank" in Varkaus, Finland

Albert Krank is a fire boat located in Varkaus, Finland. It was planned to work mainly in oil destruction on the lake areas of Northern Savo region, however, it can be used in fire extinguishing and rescue operations, too.

Albert Krank was built in 1990. She has a catamaran body with a length of 17,8 metres (approx. 58 feet), a breadth of 6,5 metres (approx. 21 feet), and a draught of only 65 centimetres (approx. 2 feet). Her displacement is 17 metric tons (approx. 37,500 pounds) without cargo, and 25 metric tons (approx. 55,100 pounds) with cargo. Albert Krank has two air-cooled diesels (525 horsepower) and a waterjet propulsion system with a maximum cruising speed of 20 knots. The minimum crew requirement is 2, and a maximum of 12 is mentioned. Albert Krank carries a pump of 4,000 liters/min (approx. 1,050 U.S. gallons/min), and 500 liters (approx. 152 U.S. gallons) of foaming agent.

Albert Krank has a brush oil skimmer (with a maximum collection width of 14 meters or approx. 46 feet), an oil collector pump of 24 m3/h, and ability to collect thin and heavy oils. In addition, Albert Krank is able to carry oil booms.

The boat has even a sauna on it. The boat is used on springs, summers, and autumns, since the lakes have a thick ice cover during the winters. However, there are environmental technology companies in Finland preparing oil and chemical skimmer equipment able to collect oil on icy seas.
