Description
Nederlands: Tekening: zeeslag tussen een Spaanse galei en een Hollandse driemaster. Pen en bruine inkt, bruin en blauw gewassen. Gesigneerd: AD Willars. Volgens Vignau voert de galei de vlag van de Spaanse Habsburgers met het Bourgondische andreaskruis, en het andere schip de prinsenvlag en de vlag met de Nederlandse leeuw. Vanaf de voorsteven wordt geschoten, op de achtergrond naderen andere schepen. Adam Willaerts (1577-1664), afkomstig uit een Antwerpse familie, woonde en werkte sinds circa 1602 als schilder in Utrecht. In 1611 was hij met Moreelse oprichter van het St. Lucasgilde, waarvan hij meermalen deken was. Hij legde zich toe op het schilderen van stads-, zee- en strandgezichten.
