Description
Français : Gravure publiée dans Le Magasin pittoresque, 1840, p. 33, en accompagnement de l'article "Ambassade française à la cour du Roi de Siam (1685)". Elle représente la première audience solennelle accordée le 18 octobre 1685 par le roi Narai au Chevalier Alexandre de Chaumont, ambassadeur de Louis XIV. La légende de la gravure reprend un extrait de la relation de sa mission par Alexandre de Chaumont : « Je fis semblant de n'entendre point ce qu'on me disait, et me tins ferme. Alors le roi, se mettant à sourire, se leva, et se baissant pour prendre la lettre dans le vase, se pencha de manière qu'on lui vit tout le corps. »
