English: Algal Domes. These lumpy rock features were formed in the early Carboniferous by algae. The domes consist of alternating laminae of calcite mud and algal debris on a calcareous mudstone base. They probably formed in a low intertidal or shallow subtidal environment. 1393381 shows a larger area and 1393241 shows a wider view with numerous domes. |
