Notes

Chantal Maigret (2002), suggests that the fortifications associated with the tower (including the residence of the chatelaine) were demolished in the 1830s. This implies that the year of 1856, given in the legend of the drawing, may be too late. The legend has "18.. 1856" where the 1856 is written in slightly smaller characters. The top of the "5" is slightly unclear and could possibly be a "3".

Maigret, Chantal (2002). "La tour Philippe le Bel 1303-2003: 700 ans d’histoire", Études vauclusiennes (in French) 68: 5–22.
Gallica has scans of 40 other drawings by Aligny. Most are undated but some have dates of 1835 and none are dated as late as 1856.
