Summary edit

Description

This red-ground decorative scheme with allegorical figures comes from the oecus. The seated woman, in eastern dress, with her chin in her hand, symbolises Asia. She looks towards a personification of Macedonia, with a spear, shield, and distinctive headdress, gathered with a simple diadem. The cloak wrapped around his nude body, the long beard and the travellers staff, indentify him as a philosopher.
