La Vierge de Niedermorschwir, vers 1500 Provenant du village de Niedermorschwihr, à proximité de Colmar, cette très belle Vierge à l’Enfant réalisée en bois de tilleul est caractéristique du développement du culte marial à la fin du Moyen Âge. L’iconographie de la Vierge portant l’Enfant est alors privilégiée car, insistant sur le lien entre Jésus et sa mère, elle fait de Marie l’intercesseur le plus efficace. Ici, la Vierge repose sur un croissant de lune, référence aux textes de l’Apocalypse qui assimilent l’Immaculée Conception à une femme descendant du ciel sur un croissant. Sans disposer d’informations sur son auteur, le modelé du corps masqué par les amples plis du manteau, la longue chevelure ondulée et la douceur du visage à l’ovale parfait permettent de rattacher cette sculpture à la production des ateliers strasbourgeois des années 1480. |
