The display of mountain scenery along the Cana-dian Pacific line in passing through the Rockies isthe finest in North America, coming largely from twocauses, each contributing to the grandeur and iin-pressiveness of the view. The width of the RockyMountain ranges in Alberta and British Columbia isnot much over three hundred miles, while in theUnited States they arc scattered and spread overa thousand miles of space with intervening tame-ness. The railway passes also are lower in BritishColumbia, so that the adjacent peaks rise higherabove the valleys, making them really grandermountains for the spectator, who is thus brought tothe very bases of such stalwart peaks as IMountStephen and )\Iount Sir Donald, rearing their snow-covered summits on high for a mile and a half aboveliis head. )>oth in concentration and elevation, as ^^ miPer, Mantt
