English: As seen in November 2020: the Amherst War Memorial Monument stands in the center of Crosby Circle at the extreme southwest corner of the town of Amherst, New York, adjacent to the intersection of Main Street and Bailey Avenue in the Cleveland Park Terrace subdivision. A 7½-foot tapered cylindrical shaft of Vermont granite topped with a globe and surrounded at its base by fluttering miniature American flags, the memorial was funded through $3,100 in donations to the Amherst Republican Women and dedicated in 1955. Its inscription reads:
A TRIBUTE OF LOVE TO THE MEMORY OF ALL AMHERST MEN AND WOMEN WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE AND OF GRATITUDE TO THOSE WHO SERVED OUR COUNTRY AND RETURNED |
