In front of thu hall, beside the bar-room, was thehotel office, separated from the dining-room only bya light partition extending about as high as a manshead. Our first glimpse next morning was of the beauti-ful snow-tipped mountains glistening in the sunlight, with Taos Peak, which is twelve thousand feet abovethe level of the sea, towering above them all. We decided to spend the day sight-seeing in the oldtown, and devote the remainder of our time to thepueblo. Our guide, the editor, told us many interest-ing things concerning the place, and pointed out theseveral buildings, the most prominent of which wasTaos Bank, the oiilv wooden structure in the town.Beyond the bank
