English: The gravestone of a remarkable woman, Bridget Hill, who died in the Second World War. She was one of the first women to fly planes in WW2, delivering them to airfields across the UK. Initially delivery pilots had to make their own way back by land. Later planes were commissioned to collect delivery pilots and on one of these flight the plane crashed (she was not the pilot) and she was killed. A persistent woman who was denied recruitment several times before eventually they took her on. The inscription on her gravestone is "The Greatest Name' in Farsi, she was a member of the Baháʼí Faith. |
