Description
English: Thanks to Zealandia EcoSanctuary's efforts to restore locally extinct birds to the Wellington region, endangered kākā (Nestor meridionalis septentrionalis) are now a common sight in Wellington City and surrounding suburbs. These curious and engaging parrots are often fed by well-meaning residents. This has led to problems like metabolic bone disease and high lead levels in the birds, as well as damage to the mostly wooden houses in the area. Residents are encouraged to plant native trees instead.
