DescriptionAncient Roman artefacts at Tullie House (16).JPG |
An Ancient Roman gravestone commemorating a wealthy woman. This was found during an archaeological dig in Carlisle, Cumbria, England. The woman is depicted wearing two tunics and a cloak, and her hairstyle mimics that of Sabina, wife of Hadrian, on a 2nd-century coin. The inscription section of the stone is missing, but the clothes and hairstyle date the carving to the 2nd century AD. Note: this exhibit was photographed through glass. |
