t by Mr. Taylor and sold to the late S.Morris Wain. At his death it came to Mr. Vauxs family. Next to Westleigh is the school of Mrs. Comegys and Miss Bell, quite a fine building erected bythese ladies for a boarding and day school, of a very high reputation, as manyof the young ladies come from all parts of the United States. This descriptionconcludes Norwood avenue on both sides. This avenue is one of the mostpicturesque of all the rural roads near the city. It has not been dedicated asa public road, and the owners of the properties keep it in order. The trees oneither side arch over the roadway and present a most striking perspective, ending in the view of the valley of Whitemarsh. On the Reading pike from Chestnut avenue west, Mr. Piper owned a residencenext to the Taylor land, then J. Sergeant Prices property and residence, andthen Mr. Bensons house and land, including the Mitchell property, and thenthe residence of the late Mr. John Bohlen. HfW o w a Pdn MO o o >o d
