English: Ancient iron planter, Oldway mansion, Paignton. This old iron planter stands outside the Rotunda at Oldway mansion at the foot of iron stairs which wind around the curve of the building. The planter is highly decorated, with swags of rust encrusted flowers. These might be described as in a distressed condition. No doubt this would be highly prized by lovers of the Gothic. The primulas above don't regard the history of their container and parade their hybrid colours like the amusements not far away near the sea front. Note the fine line of pierced terracotta bricks in the wall between the stone and the brick, acting as a damp course.
