Summary edit
DescriptionAndover - The Angel Public House - geograph.org.uk - 651107.jpg |
English: Andover - The Angel Public House. An inn has stood on this site since 1175 and was originally known as the College Tavern and belonged to the estate of Winchester College. The original building burned down in the great fire of Andover in 1435. The Pub was rebuilt in 1445 and was altered many times over the years until it arrived at its present form as a coaching inn. The Angel still retains many of its original parts including the grade 1 listed fireplace and beam work through out the pub.
Due to its great age many of the great and the good have visited the pub including King John, Edward I, Edward II, Henry VII, Catherine of Aragon and James II to name but a few. |
