La Bibliothèque nationale de Paris conserve sous la cote Ms. lat. 8878 un précieux manuscrit enluminé que l’on désigne du nom de « Beatus de Saint-Sever ». Il s’agit d’un Commentaire de l’Apocalypse de saint Jean, écrit et illustré au xie siècle dans l’abbaye de Saint-Sever en Gascogne, mais dont le texte a été rédigé en Espagne au viiie siècle, et qui a fait par la suite l’objet de nombreuses copies, dont 26 sont encore conservées ou rappelées par de simples fragments dispersés à travers le monde.
