DescriptionAnimas Forks Ghost Town, BLM Colorado (15615265446).jpg |
Animas Forks, located along Colorado's historic Alpine Loop Backcountry Byway, was once a thriving mining town of 30 cabins and a hotel, general store, saloon and post office. When gold mining profits began to decline in the late 1800s, investment in the town declined, and the town was a ghost town by the 1920s. The site lives on today as a tourist attraction. Earlier this year, as part of the Alpine Loop’s 25th anniversary commemoration, the BLM worked with partner groups to restore structures in the ghost towns so visitors can safely visit the ghost town.
