An-dromaque cacha son fils • mais Ulysse layant décou-vert , le fit précipiter du haut des murailles. Lartiste a représenté linstant où Andromaque, quia suivi son fils jusque sur la fatale muraille, fait tousses efforts pour larracher des mains du soldat qui vale précipiter. Ulysse et Calchas, éloignés du lieu où se passe lac-tion , en attendent lissue pour se convaincre de lamort dAstyanax. Ce tableau, dont les figures sont de grandeur natu-relle , annonce un talent imbu de principes solides.On y trouve du mouvement et de lexpression , dugrandiose dans le dessin et dans les caractères. Peut-être desirerait-on un peu plus de finesse dans le pin-ceau , de piquant dans leffet; mais lartiste paraît avoirpour but cette manière large qui distingue lécole desCaraches.
