English: Monument to Lady Anne Sackville (d.25 September 1664) ("Anne, Lady Beauchamp"), a daughter of Robert Sackville, 2nd Earl of Dorset and wife firstly of Sir Edward Seymour, eldest son of Edward Seymour, Viscount Beauchamp, and secondly wife of Sir Edward Lewis (d.1630) by whom she had issue. Her splendid monument with effigies of herself and her second husband survives in Edington Priory Church in Wiltshire. Lady Anne's effigy lies to the rear, and higher than that of her second husband, Sir Edward Lewis, to show that she was his superior in rank. Above the dexter pillar is Sir Edward Lewis' coat of arms on an escutcheon, and above the sinister pillar is the Sackville coat of arms on a lozenge. Between these is a larger cartouche displaying their impaled arms. |
