F. Khnopff a donné le visage d'Antinoüs à la tête d'Hypnos dans certaines de ses oeuvres. Après sa mort (ou son assassinat) en 130 après J.-C., Antinoüs a été divinisé par l'empereur romain Hadrien dont il était le favori.
