The names and localities of the several hills areplainly given on the engraving.* The walls of themodern city are indicated by the heavy black line.The more ancient walls are shown by dots and marksarranged and named on the engraving. It will be interestingto notice some of the many foi-ms of lamps, with theirsingular marks and inscriptions, that have been foundamong the rubbish in the various excavations underJerusalem, in cisterns or sewers, where they have beenaccidentally dropped, or in chambers where theywere left when the rooms were abandoned. Nearlyall of those found are broken, a few only beingwhole, which had been lost, perhaps.
