Of this I have no knowledge, but it appears to be a natural conclusion that acertain percentage of them would be carried with the current through the breaks in thelevees. The output of fish from the Sisson hatchery for the two years Ijeginning September1, 1902, and ending August 31, 1904, is as follows: Season I90S.Salmon eggs received from Baird, Battle Creek, and Mill CreekStations, U. 2(i REPORT OF 8TATE BOARD OF FISH COMMISSIONERS. The last two years have been busy ones at this station, especially the year just closed,when there was expended on these grounds the $10,CX)0 appropriated at the last sessionof the Legislature. All of the work and improvements were absolutely necessary.The help came when it was most needed. In efficiency and capacity we have gained atleast six years. All of the improvements are of a durable and permanent character.We now have eighteen trout-rearing ponds and eleven nurseries. While they requireconsiderable labor to keep them clean and in such order that the fish will thrive, theyhave been provided with drains so that one pond can be emptied at a time, affordingbetter opportunities for sorting the fry, which important work must be done system-atically and by skilled hands, in order that no injury will be done the fish. I find thatafter the first six months the young fish should be sorted every sixty days, owingto unequal development. The
