When stormy weather sets in the fish almostentirely disappear, and it is the general belief that they move southward.Very little is knoT^Ti about the migrations or spawning habits of the alba-core. The most reliable information I have obtained on the subject wasgiven my by JMr. )\I. Kondo, formerly professor in the Imperial FisheriesInstitute at Tok^o, and by Mr. S. F. Takasaki, an assistant from thesame institution. These gentlemen have made investigations in LowerCalifornia during the last two years. On March 7, 1912, while tryingfor albacore near Magdalena Bay, they took twenty fish by trolling.The fish were mature and ready to spawn. The roe of the females wasabout the same size as codfish roe, and was a light brownish red color.Toward the end of March, this year, they again took albacore withmature roe off San Batrome (?) Bay, Lower California, and at that timeobserved large patches of floating eggs, which they were satisfied were 112 REPORT OF THE PISH AND GAME COMMISSION.
