Summary edit

Description
English: Approaching Peden's View from the east. Peden's View is a small knoll on the northeast side of the B709 near Langholm. It is named after the Rev Alexander Peden (1626-86), a church minister who held field meetings over the hills of Southern Scotland in the times of the Covenanters. It is said that the Rev Peden was saved here from Sir James Johnstone of Westerhall's men by a sudden mist. During the Covenanting times many ordinary men were persecuted because of their support for the Presbyterian Church. Approximately 7km to the northeast of Peden's View is a stone in hill countryside named after the Rev Peden 881172.
