Description
English: Ardross Castle Doocot. Late 17th or early 18th century, rectangular single lectern type doocot with crowstepped roof and rat-course stepped at flanks. Pigeons once provided a valuable supply of fresh meat, especially in winter, and special structures were built by privileged landlords and landed institutions to accommodate the birds. This doocot was built for Ardross castle, the remains of which are sited 100m to the northwest.
