Summary edit

Description
English: Area of glacial deposition in the middle Soch basin During the retreat of the Irish Sea Ice Sheet in the latter stages of the Devensian Glaciation (some 80-85,000 years ago) a large sandur system developed over Western Llyn - i.e. the formation of an outwash plain of sandy deposits with characteristic features such as kettles, deltas and braided streams. Added to these meltwater deposits were moranic ridges, the formation of which reflected the periodic oscillations of the glacial snouts. Combined, these deposits disrupted the pre-glacial drainage pattern. This can be seen in the diversion of Afon Soch eastwards to Tremadog Bay, considerably increasing its length. No large stream now drains into Hell's Mouth Bay.
