editDescriptionArgentine Machine Gun Position (51066611702).jpg |
On the east side of the road on Wireless Ridge, remains of a heavy machine gun (HMG) mount and position. From here, fire could have been directed to Moody Brook (left of arc) and to Tumbledown (centre of arc), as well as cutting off any British if they chose to advance on Stanley from the west. It is interesting to note that these high mounts are typically associated with anti-aircraft fire, but the .50" HMG was predominantly a ground weapon and could have been deployed in either role, or dropped off the high mount as the ground battle aproached. |
