English: Armagh Elim Church. George Jeffreys (1889 - 1962), the founder of the Elim Pentecostal Churches, was undoubtedly one of the greatest evangelists of the twentieth century. He was born in Maesteg, Glamorgan, the sixth son of Thomas and Kezia Jeffreys, and was converted in November 1904 during the Welsh Revival in 1910. Soon he began to be in demand as a preacher, at first in his own locality and then, as his reputation grew, further afield. Following an invitation to preach in Bangor in 1914, he met a group of like-minded young men in Monaghan in January 1915. That meeting led to the formation of the Elim Evangelistic Band and eventually brought the Elim Pentecostal Churches into being. |
