Summary

Description
English: Asham Wharf Now disused but built to service the two cement works that had been constructed in the vicinity from 1927. Clay and coal were brought to the works with the finished cement product taken away, both being transported to the works from the docks by an aerial ropeway. The wharf continued in use until 1967 when transportation shifted to the roads. The cement works survived until 1978 with the quarries becoming part of the Beddingham landfill site. The wharf's other claim to fame is that it was the site where Virginia Woolf's drowned body was discovered three weeks after she threw herself into the river.
