English: The ashy bulbul, a member of the bulbul family Pycnonotidae, is a songbird species found across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Thriving in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, as well as subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, it graces its natural habitats with its presence.

Characterized by its sharply-dressed appearance, this bulbul typically exhibits a gray plumage with vibrant yellow-green wing panels, rounded brown ear patches, and a white throat. Variations are observed in birds from southern Indochina, which tend to be browner overall with reduced contrast. Notably, its dark, bushy crest often appears raised, lending it a somewhat disheveled appearance.

Occupying a diverse array of wooded habitats in foothill, submontane, and montane regions, the ashy bulbul is frequently spotted foraging in flocks alongside other bulbul species. Its melodious song comprises short, jumbled phrases of metallic warbled notes, while its calls vary from harsh chattering to tuneful piping.

Recently, sighting of this elegant bird was photographed at the Buxa Tiger Reserve & National Park in West Bengal, India.
