Description
Nederlands: De geschiedenis van Jozef komt veel voor op beschilderde meubelen. Jozef werd door zijn broers verkocht en groeide op aan het hof van de farao in Egypte. Het Jozefverhaal werd vergeleken met de eigen geschiedenis. De onderdrukking van Jozef stond in de zeventiende eeuw gelijk aan de overheersing door de Spanjaarden. Op de lade is een rebus en het jaartal 1676 geschilderd. De oplossing van de puzzel is de spreuk 'Vat de tijd en leer de wereld kennen'. Dit type kast wordt wel 'Assendelfter kast' genoemd. Die naam heeft niets met de herkomst van het meubel te maken.
