Description |
English: "Our painting, executed around 1665 is attributed to “the Beaubruns”. Henri, born in 1603 in Amboise and died in 1677 in Paris, and his cousin Charles Beaubrun, born in 1604 in Amboise and died in 1692 in Paris, are French painters active at the court of the kings Louis XIII then Louis XIV and specialized in portraits of queens of France. Their works are mainly produced jointly. Their collaboration is such that it is impossible to differentiate their helping hand. Their individual works are thus jointly attributed to them. They executed many official portraits. We keep a few paintings of them at Versailles. (Queen Marie-Thérèse, Louise Ollier de Nointel et au Prado (Anne d'Autriche; la Grande Mademoiselle, 1655; le Grand Dauphin, 1663), as well as several engravings after lost portraits. Their style and their small invoice are attached to the tradition of drawn portraits of the XVIth century with a slightly solemn note which undoubtedly comes to them from Frans Pourbus the Younger. The Château de Bussy-Rabutin has works by these painters and an exhibition conducted jointly with the Château de Versailles has allowed to bring to light this painting: "The gallery of beauties of Louis XIV) from June 30 to October 14, 2018 (click HERE for the link.) This portrait representing a young lady, could be Catherine-Charlotte de Gramont, princess of Monaco, represented in Sainte-Catherine with its wheel and its palm." |
