English: Swinging Atwood's machine - a simple mechanical system consisting of two weights connected with a thread passed through two pulleys. One of the weights can only move up and down and the second oscillates around its suspension point (one of the pulleys). Unlike simple Atwood's machine, the swinging machine can perform quite complex movements (if the mass of the oscillating weight is less than mass of one moving up and down). For different values of the parameters the dynamical system represented by a swinging Atwood's machine shows various types of behavior: the periodic, quasi-periodic, chaotic. The figure shows the trajectory of the smaller weight (oscillating) center when the mass ratio of weights is changing from 1 to 6.

Українська: Хитна машина Атвуда - це проста механічна система, вона складаеться з двох тягарців, які з'єднані ниткою, що перекинута через два блоки. Один з тягарців може рухатися тільки вгору або вниз, а інший коливається навколо точки свого підвісу (одного з блоків). На відміну від звичайної машини Атвуда, хитна машина може здійснювати доволі складні рухи (якщо маса того тягарця, що коливається, менше, ніж того, що рухається вгору-вниз). Для різних значень параметрів динамічна система, яка описує хитну машину Атвуда, демонструє різні типи поведінки: періодичну, квазі-періодичну, хаотичну. На малюнку зображено траєкторію центру меншого тягарця (того, що коливається) при зміненні відношення мас тягарців від 1 до 6.

Русский: Качающаяся машина Атвуда - несложная механическая система, состоящая из двух грузов, соединенных нитью, пропущенной через два блока. Один из грузов может двигаться только вверх и вниз, а второй колеблется вокруг точки подвеса к одному из блоков. В отличие от простой машины Атвуда, качающаяся машина может совершать довольно сложные движения (если масса колеблющегося груза меньше массы двигающегося вверх-вниз). При разных значениях параметров динамическая система, представляемая качающейся машиной Атвуда, демонстрирует различные виды поведения: периодическое, квазипериодическое, хаотическое. На рисунке изображена траектория движения меньшего из грузов (колеблющегося) при изменении отношения масс грузов от 1 до 6.
