Summary edit

Description
English: This stone and stucco mansion is an important example of Italianate-Federal architecture built in 1790 by Capt. Charles Ridgely. Ridgely's estate amounted to nearly $150,000., including 10,000 acres of land in Baltimore County, over three hundred enslaved people, a library of about 175 volumes, and family silver valued at over $2,300. At his death in 1829, all those enslaved that had not reached the age of 45 were freed. Located on the campus of Towson University, Auburn House was purchased from neighboring Sheppard-Pratt Hospital, in 1971. It was re-opened during National Bicentennial in 1976 as a dining club for the university and greater community. Since then, Auburn House has been used for TU alumni events, pre-game receptions, reunions, weddings and private parties. Between 2013 and 2017 the property underwent a series of minor repairs and renovations.
