גבעת אביגיל היא צעיר יישובי הר חברון. הוקמה נולד בערב יום הכיפורים תשס"ב (26.9.2001), בגובה 820 מטר מעל פני הים. הגבעה היא על-שם אביגיל, אשתו של דוד המלך. לפני שנישאה לדוד הייתה אביגיל נשואה לנבל הכרמלי שהתגורר במעון המקראית. על נבל נאמר "והאיש קשה ורע מעללים", כהנגדה לאביגיל, שהייתה "אשה טובת שכל ויפת תואר".

היישוב הוקם בערב על ידי קבוצת חיילים משוחררים מצה"ל, בסמיכות לאזור בו התקיימו מספר ניסיונות לפיגועים. מיד לאחר העלייה לקרקע הוצא על ידי בג"ץ צו ביניים שהקפיא את עבודות הפיתוח עד לבירור מעמד הקרקע. הדיונים נמשכו כשנתיים וחצי, והפסיקה התירה את המשך העבודות.

הישוב נמצא ברובו על אדמות מדינה. בגבעה דיר עיזים שסיפק חלב עיזים למחלבה בסוסיא.
