Description
English: Aerial photograph of lifeboat from SS City of Benares. The passenger liner was carrying children being evacuated from Britain to Canada when it was sunk in a U-Boat attack on the convoy in which it was travelling. Only 13 of the 90 children on board survived and government evacuation of children to the Dominions such as Canada, New Zealand and Australia (the CORB scheme) immediately ceased.
