  • Significance: The site of this great houses was purchased in 1758 by Captain James Abercrombie who died at sea 2 years later, leaving it to his son, the Reverend James Abercrombie. Many merchants and others prominent in Philadelphia owned and/or occupied this house. They included Charles Stedman, Blair McClenachan, Walter Stewart, William Cramond, John Ross, and William T. Smith.
