Summary
editDescriptionBTO figure 1.svg |
English: This graphic illustrates the Burst Timing Offset (BTO) measurement as it pertains to the analysis of satellite communications between Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 and a ground station, via an Inmarsat-3 F1 satellite. The upper drawing shows the relation of the BTO measurement to the time slot for the ping (handshake request) to be sent and the response from the aircraft to be received.
The bottom drawing depicts the path traveled by the ping and response from the aircraft (both red), which is sent from the aircraft's satellite data unit. The BTO measurement is the time from when the ping leaves the ground station to the time it returns to the ground station and reaches processing equipment, where the BTO measurement is recorded. |
