Kommentar: Mazaios, zuvor Satrap in Kilikien, hatte den Auftrag des persischen Großkönigs, Babylon gegen Alexander III. von Makedonien zu verteidigen. Angesichts der aussichtslosen Lage übergab er im Oktober 331 v. Chr. die Stadt und wurde von Alexander als sein Statthalter dort eingesetzt. Diese Aufgabe erfüllte Mazaios bis zu seinem Tod im Jahre 328 v. Chr. - Diese Silbermünzen im attischen Gewicht und sonst völlig unveränderten Äußeren (man vergleiche Prägungen des Mazaios aus Myriandros im persischen Standard) stellen damit die ersten Produkte der Münzstätte Babylon dar.
