English: Down mineral north of Bakewell. View SE, towards Bakewell, Matlock and Derby: ex-Midland Derby - Buxton/Manchester 'Peak' main line (closed 1967). In 1961 this major main line was busy with passenger and especially freight. Here a Class K freight is typically pounding up the 15 miles of 1-in-100 from Rowsley through Bakewell and Millers Dale to Peak Forest assisted by a banker, the locomotive being BR Standard 5MT 4-6-0 No. 73143 (built 12/56, withdrawn 6/68), one of those fitted with Caprottie valve-gear. |
